Daphne Speight

Having had a love of drawing and an interest in art since childhood, Daphne commenced her study of art part-time in 1980 as a mature student with the late Edward Jones. From 1997-1999 she studied part-time at the Shelley Park Annex to the Arts Institute, Bournemouth (now AUB), under the tuition of Peter Joyce, obtaining the College Diploma in Fine Art.

Daphne now works in most media although oils were her preferred medium initially together with pencil and charcoal drawings. She enjoys a variety of subject matter although her focus was often the human figure, both in portraiture and in narrative works depicting the day-to-day activities of ordinary people. Colour and texture are important elements in all her work and more recentlyshe has moved into the realms of semi abstraction that may reference fragments of poems or well-known quotes from literature resulting in imaginative landscapes and abstract images.
