Ruth Oaks
I drew and looked at art since childhood and gained my formal art education as a mature student at Arts Institute Bournemouth.
I was one of the founder members of Poole Printmakers and I have exhibited regularly with them and Bournemouth Arts Club/Southern Contemporaries, also participating in selected exhibitions in London and elsewhere. I set up Poole Painting Studio in 2006, where I host a variety of art courses and activities.
I work in painting and a variety of printmaking techniques, with a strong element of drawing and structure. I often use words as a starting point for compositions.
My series of paintings “The Stations of the Cross” can be seen in St Aldhelm’s Church, Branksome. I won a commission to paint the “Triptych of St Peter and St Paul” for Ringwood Parish Church in 2005, and a series of poetry prints, commissioned in 2008, can be seen at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead.
