John Austin-WilliamsJohn was born in Kew, Surrey, but has lived in Dorset for most of his life. After graduating from university he studied with Cecil Waller where he gained strict discipline in drawing and the techniques of oil painting. Later his studies took him to the Polish School of Art, London, where he studied under Professor Bohusz-Szyszko and from where he was awarded a distinction. In 1992 he was granted recognition as an artist by the Revenue Commissioners, Dublin, Ireland, as having “produced original and creative” work – generally recognised as having cultural or artistic merit. |

He has work in both private and public collections in the UK and abroad. He has shown widely in solo and group exhibitions in London, South of England and beyond. In the area both Alpha House Gallery, Sherborne, and Bettles Gallery, Ringwood, have regularly shown and stocked his work. Artist StatementMusic and landscape are twin passions in my life and provide the basis for much of my work. Line, colour and texture combine within the act of composition – a personal response to what is seen, felt and experienced. As a result, the work is primarily about its own existence. Any one of my paintings or drawings, therefore, is not necessarily about other things: it is about itself. |
